Spotlights: Kevin Am
Bio: I was born in Cambodia and emigrated to the U.S. when I was two years old. After high school, I attended Arizona State University. I received a bachelor's degree in business management in 2001. I grew up in the auto industry; my brother was a technician for over 12 years before he opened up his own independent shop. I worked as his advisor and managed the front office during my college summer vacations. After graduating and before I was involved with Ford, I went to work for a Mercedes dealership in their sales department. I eventually became their IT Director and Assistant Parts and Services Director. My hobbies are sports, cars, and computers. I am currently working as a Dealership Management Trainee at Sanderson Ford in Glendale, AZ.
An Interview with Kevin
- Q:
- What have you enjoyed the most about your experience?
- A:
- The amount of experience students gain rotating through each department; it is the most valuable asset that this program has given us. Unlike a regular employee, ADEPM students are given the opportunity to learn the aspects of every major department with the dealership.
- Q:
- How are you going to use what you have learned in future career endeavors?
- A:
- My ultimate goal is to be the principal of a dealership; however, even if you do not attain that goal, you have brought with you a vast amount of experience and leadership that other people would envy. This will cause future employers to think twice before they pass you up.
- Q:
- Why did you originally become interested in the CAEL or ADEPM?
- A:
- As soon as I heard about this new program at ASU in conjunction with Ford, I knew that this is what I wanted to do; owning my own dealership and working for myself were always my goals when I graduated.
